DOTHAN. . .Johnny Ben Kirkland, a resident of Dothan, died late Friday afternoon, December 25, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 81.


            Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 28, 2015, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Ricky Plummer officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 A.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, AL 36302.


            Mr. Kirkland was born in the Concord community of Henry County, son of the late William Henry Franklin Kirkland and Gracie Bell Harrison Kirkland. He served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Kirkland attended Wallace Community College where he received a certificate as an Automotive Technician. A resident of Dothan since 1962, he retired from Action Truck Center as the Parts Manager. Mr. Kirkland was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Hodges and Imogene McAllister, and two brothers, Charles Kirkland and Taylor Kirkland.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Hazel Boyd Kirkland; three daughters, Debbie Hall (Jeff), Beth Kirkland, and Paula Kennamore (John), all of Dothan; two sons, Richard Kirkland (Cecilia), and Martin Kirkland (Debbie), all of Dothan; a sister, Patsy Underwood (Roger), Birmingham; two brothers, Thomas Kirkland (Debbie), and Roger Dale Kirkland (Tami), all of Headland; eleven grandchildren, Candace Kirkland, Shannon Watkins, Erin Merifield, Josh Kirkland, Drew Kennamore, Justin Kennamore, Brandy Kennamore, Brandon Kennamore, Terra Schloder,  Katie Schloder and Jeremy Byars, fourteen great-grandchildren.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Covenant Hospice for their kindness and compassion and especially to Grad Stokes for the loving care and devotion shown to Mr. Kirkland during his illness.
