DOTHAN. . .Johnny Mack Cherry, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday morning, May 29 2022, at his home. He was 88.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 31, 2022, in the Memphis Baptist Church with Reverend Billy Rich and Reverend Jim Tate officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Memphis Baptist Church “Cemetery Fund”, 4595 Eddins Road, Dothan, AL 36301.
Mr. Cherry was born and reared in Houston County, son of the late Edward Cherry and Lemmie Davis Cherry. He was a 1951 graduate of Ashford High School. Mr. Cherry served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War era. He was an active member of the Memphis Baptist Church where he formerly served as a Deacon, coached and played with the men’s softball team and taught a children’s Sunday school class. He also umpired with the City of Dothan Recreation Department. Mr. Cherry retired as the Assistant Street Superintendent from the City of Dothan after thirty-one years employment. After retirement, he was employed by Mark Dunning Industries. Mr. Cherry was preceded in death by two sisters, Gwen Dunning and Pat Boyette, and a brother, Jerome Cherry.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Sara Mims Cherry; two daughters, Sharon Trujillo (Henry), and Marilyn Chancey (Scott), all of Dothan; two brothers, Kenneth Cherry, Dothan; and Ronnie Cherry, Wewahitchka, Fl; two grandchildren, Athens Trujillo and Cheyenne Trujillo; several nieces and nephews.
