NEWVILLE. . .Jones Edward McLain, a resident of Newville, died early Thursday evening, April 11, 2019, at his home. He was 84.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 13, 2019, in the Lakeside Christian Fellowship with Reverend Mickey Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Lakeside Christian Fellowship, P.O. Box 218, Abbeville, AL 36310, or Bethlehem Baptist Church, 2506 State Highway 134 East, Headland, AL 36345.
Mr. McLain was a lifelong resident of Newville, son of the late Robert James McLain and Cordie Leatus Roney McLain. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War Era. He was a member of the Lakeside Christian Fellowship. Mr. McLain was engaged in farming most of his adult lifetime and in later years, was employed with his brother in the operation of Farmer’s Favorite Fertilizer. He was preceded in death by a son, Jones Wilson “Mack” McLain, and a brother, James C. McLain.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Martha Wilson McLain; a daughter, Vicki Slater (Tim), all of Newville; a daughter-in-law, Deborah McLain, Abbeville; three grandchildren, Katie Mize (Derrick), Justin Slater and Dylan Slater (Jessica); four great-grandchildren, Cohen Mize, Jaxon Slater, Easton Slater and Ava Camille Slater.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Tim Slater, Dylan Slater, Justin Slater, Chase Peterson, Andy Vaught and Derrick Mize.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Covenant Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. McClain during his illness.
