Joseph Anthony "Tony" Phillips, 42, of Pansey began his eternal walk in Glory with the Lord on Tuesday, May 1, 2012.
Memorial services will be 10 am Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Nixon officiating. Military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Phillips was born November 18, 1969 in Selma, Alabama and spent the early part of his life there. He was a graduate of Dallas County High School and joined the U.S. Army following his graduation. He was a decorated Veteran of the Desert Shield and Desert Storm Wars. He was also a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union #52 in Montgomery, AL for 17 years.
Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his father Joe Phillips, paternal grandparents Leonard and Minnie Phillips, maternal grandparents Clint and Florabelle Wright, and a brother Frankie Phillips.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his loving wife of 17 years Delta Dawn Phillips of Pansey; his children, Amanda (Kim) Allen of Moultrie, GA, Michael (Jan) Barwick of Moultrie, GA, Nisha Dannels of Pansey, Justin (Allison) Dannels of Pansey, Shaun (Candace) Dannels of Wicksburg, Joshua Dannels of Kinsey, and Jeffrey Dannels of Pensacola; his loving mother Ida Rozanne (Ricky) Kaldor of Selma; step-mother Diane Bonds Phillips of Griffin, GA; siblings, Ida Suzanne (Jeffery) Waites, Angela (Rocky) Landers, Boyd Phillips, Matthew (Stephanie) Phillips, Raymond Nichols, Donald Nichols, Shawn Barnes, Lisa (Vince) Miller, Daryle (Danielle) Bonds; he was blessed with 5 grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A very special thank you to the following people that Mr. Phillips was extremely blessed with in his short life: Donald Hood, Christopher Harvey, Charlie Jones, Charlie Vanhousen, Jeff and Joyce Coker, Shawn Brockston, Robert Tyler Kelly, Andria Daryn Tate, Robert Darrin Tate, Cathryn Tate Deathridge, and Dakota Keith Deathridge. A very special thank you to the following people: George and Jeannie Kelly (Nana and Papa), Rev. Johnny and Chrissy Nixon, and his New Elm Baptist Church Family and a special cousin Chris Carver.
Mr. Phillips was a wonderful person and friend to all; he was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed but never forgotten. "Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned." John 5: 28-29. So sleep my precious loved one till I see you again.
