Joseph Corbitt


Joseph Corbitt, a resident of Abbeville, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Flowers Hospital. He was 80.


Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Eufaula, with Rev. Walter Pogue officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday evening.


Mr. Corbitt was born October 12, 1935 in Abbeville. He lived his early life there and joined the U.S. Air Force after finishing school. He moved to Naples, Florida and lived there for 55 years working as a general contractor. He then moved back to his hometown of Abbeville to retire. Mr. Corbitt loved building things and working with his hands. He joined the church at an early age and was a devoted Christian all his life.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Corbitt and Daisy Floyd Corbitt; wife, Annie Elma Bulger Corbitt; brother, Jim Henry Corbitt; two sisters, Naomi Graham and Lois Evelyn Corbitt.


Survivors include his faithful, loving, devoted companion, Ruby Reese; son, Jonathan Corbitt; daughters, Diane Ealey (Anthony), Tomorrow Young; three grandchildren, DeAnthony Ealey, Ka’Miya Koonce and Kylan Bush; two brothers, Andrew Corbitt and Rev. James Quincey Corbitt (Mary); two sisters, Annie Ruth Payne and Maurine Lawrence; uncle, L.B. Corbitt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and close friends including Shirley Hall (Willie).
