JOSEPH DARRELL BURKETT
EDWIN COMMUNITY. . .Joseph Darrell Burkett, a resident of the Edwin Community of Henry County, died late Saturday afternoon, January 25, 2014, in the emergency room of a Eufaula hospital. He was 66.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 28, 2014, in the Lakeside Christian Fellowship with Reverend Mickey Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Abbeville.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeside Christian Fellowship “Benevolence Fund”, P.O. Box 218, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Darrell Burkett was born and reared in Headland, son of the late Robert Richmond Burkett and Lula Ray Tice Burkett. He lived in the Bertha Community before moving to Edwin in 1991. Darrell was an active member of the Lakeside Christian Fellowship where he served as a door greeter. He was engaged in farming most of his adult lifetime. Darrell was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Burkett, three sisters, Peggy Smith, Judy Burkett, Ganelle Burkett, and a brother, Carlton Earl Burkett.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Joyce Hembree Burkett, Edwin Community; a daughter, Lisa Harrison (Orville), Abbeville; three sons, Mike McLeod (Cathy), Headland; Andy McLeod (Terressa), Newton; and Phillip Burkett (Brandy), Skipperville; six sisters, Shirley Caulder and Martha Osborn, both of Phenix City; Sue Mills, Headland; Linda McLean, Headland; Pauline Enfinger, Abbeville; and Patricia Farness, Headland; a brother, Charles Burkett, Headland; eleven grandchildren, Grayson, Anthony, Jeremy, J.J., Mason, Jacob, Jarrett, Travis, Macey, Brianna, and Dalton; numerous nieces and nephews.
