JOSEPH HAROLD SMITH
ABBEVILLE.....Joseph (Joe) Harold Smith, a resident of County Road 57, North, Abbeville, died early Friday morning, April 20, 2012, at the home of a sister in the Wills Crossroads community, near Abbeville. He was 70.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Sunday, April 22, 2012, in the Old Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Matthew Quincey and Reverend Thomas D. Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilgrim’s Rest Free Will Baptist Cemetery with Holman-Abbeville Mortuary directing. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary.
A native of the Wills Crossroads community, Mr. Smith was the son of the late J.D. Smith and Ruth Davis Smith. He lived in Lynn Haven, Florida most of his lifetime and returned to Henry County in 2000. Mr. Smith owned and operated St. Andrews Sheet Metal in Panama City, Florida and also the Fish Net Restaurant in Lynn Haven, Florida. He also formerly served as the Fire Chief of the Southport Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Southport Men’s Club. Mr. Smith was a member of the Pilgrim’s Rest Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Kayla Lynn Smith, Panama City, Fl.; three sisters, Natalie Money and husband, Marty; Elma Ruth Mizell and husband, Dan and Marsha Murphy and husband Brendt; two brothers, Richard Smith and wife, Patsy and James (Shorty) Smith and wife, Debbie all of Abbeville; numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jason Smith, Justin Money, Chase Murphy, Jason Blankenship, Stan Kilpatrick and J.W. Money. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Jordan, Robert Wayne Wilson and Ernie Money.
