COTTONWOOD...Joseph (Joel) Armstrong, Jr., a resident of Cottonwood, formerly of Headland, died Sunday, May 21, 2017, in a Dothan hospital. He was 46.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 24, 2017 in the Union Hill Baptist Church near Cottonwood with Pastor Kyle Johnson and Chaplain Jody Haddan officiating. Graveside services with military rites will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Union Hill Baptist Church c/o Donna Halstead, 7335 South County Road 33, Cottonwood, AL 36320.
Mr. Armstrong was a native of Headland and attended Headland High School and was currently attending Troy University, Dothan and scheduled to graduate in December with a Bachelor’s Degree in English. He was a loving, caring husband, father, Papaw and friend to all he encountered. Mr. Armstrong served his country in Operation Enduring Freedom with the Daleville Army National Guard Unit and was a disabled veteran. He moved to Cottonwood in 2013 and was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church and currently employed as a substitute teacher. Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by his mother, Darline Mills Armstrong.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Christi Armstrong; two daughters, Christina Armstrong and Abbigail Armstrong; two sons, Travis Armstrong and Luke Armstrong, all of Cottonwood; father, Jessup Armstrong (Mary), San Angelo, TX; three brothers, Tim Armstrong, Cottonwood; David Armstrong (Becca), Virginia Beach, VA; and Chris Armstrong, San Angelo, TX; two grandchildren, Cayden Armstrong and Emerie Quattlebaum; and numerous extended family members.
