Michael Joseph (Joe) McKinnon of Enterprise, AL, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013 at The Manor in Niceville, FL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 15, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Enterprise with Rev. Sonny Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time. Mr. McKinnon was born Oct. 12, 1929 in Enterprise to the late J.D. McKinnon and Sophia Guntner McKinnon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tamra Lei Miriam McKinnon Dyess and stepfather, Levi Helms.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Bette McKinnon; three sons, Mike McKinnon (Patsy) of Albany, GA; Steve McKinnon (Ann) of Dale County; and Greg McKinnon (Hope) of Niceville, FL; 3 grandchildren, Lesa McKinnon Outlaw, Wesley McKinnon, and Faith McKinnon Parry; 5 step grandchildren, Jennifer Kirkland, Cindy McNair, Lori Jacobs, Courtney Oates and Michelle Scott; and 12 great grandchildren, Michael, Brandy and Luke Outlaw, Jacob and Austin Casey, Peyton Jacobs, Samantha Mathews, Hunter, Ethan and Rio Scott, Ally and Matthew Oats.
Before Alzheimer's disease began to limit his capabilities nearly 13 years ago, Mr. McKinnon was a longtime businessman and outstanding citizen of Enterprise. He served as a deacon at First Baptist Church, as president of the Enterprise Lions Club, and as scoutmaster of Troop 48. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks for the loving care he received for nearly 3 years at the Enterprise Health and Rehab Center.
