Joseph O. Shiflet, age 86, of Dothan, AL., has gone to be with his creator on June 6, 2015.


Mr. Shiflet was born in Dayton, Ohio on July 19, 1928. Mr. Shiflet joined the military when he was 17 and continued to serve our country until he retired in 1968. He served on the PT Boat 17 in WWII in the Philippines. He was a member of the prestigious 6147th TAC.CON.GP. in Korea. He was a member of the original 819th Red Horse Team in Viet Nam.


Joe was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers (Nelson, Bernard, and Richard), 3 sisters (Dorothy Barlow, Pauline Tangeman, Martha Wasco) and numerous nieces and nephews.


He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eilene, their 2 daughters Renna Murtadi of Dothan, AL and Karen Couture (Bob) of Dothan, AL. Also surviving him are his 5 grandchildren Jason Couture, Somiya Murtadi, Usif Murtadi (Aimee), Angelina Couture, and Jonathan Couture (Violetta) and 11 great-grandchildren, and his brother Frank Shiflet (Yoshi) of Dayton, Ohio.


Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 A.M. on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 A.M. Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial will be at Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
