Joseph Paul McColley

Joseph "Joe" McColley, a beacon of kindness and love, passed away peacefully at home with his family on July 28, 2024, in Ashford, Alabama, at the age of 77. Born on June 22, 1947, in Hastings, Michigan, Joe's life was a testament to the power of positivity and the strength of the human spirit.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary, and is cherished in memory by his daughters, Patty Davidson (Donald), Robin McKee (Matt), Mellisa Jo Martin (Steve), and his cherished baby, toy poodle, Skippy. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Sabrina Foster, Candace Kelly, Jonathan Davidson, Matthew Davidson, Bryce McKee (USAF), Dillon McKee, Sarah McKee, Beth Butler, and Erin Martin, as well as his six great-grandchildren. His brother, David McColley, along with several nieces, nephews, and a ton of friends, will carry forward the light of his presence. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Robby Robinson and Billie Jo Robinson Holloway; his sister, Patty Burns; his grandson, Justin McKee; and sister-in-law, Sue McColley.

Joe proudly served his country in the Army for four years, followed by an extended commitment to the Army Reserves. His service included tours in the Korean War, marking him as a veteran of valor. After his military service, he dedicated many years to International Harvester, building diesel engines with a craftsman's touch. In Indiana, Joe was a respected foreman at a large roofing company, showcasing his leadership and expertise.

His faith was the cornerstone of his life. Joe attended his brother's church, Pentecostal Power of Praise, while in Indiana and continued his devotion at Dothan Church of God after moving to Dothan in 2006. His Christian values were evident in every aspect of his life and his commitment to his faith was unwavering.

Joe's personality was as bright as his favorite color, yellow. To know Joe was to not only be loved but to feel loved—his warmth was as radiant as a ray of sunshine. His sociable nature made him the center of any gathering, and his home was always open for friends to enjoy his cooking, laughter, and stories. An avid outdoorsman, Joe found solace and joy in fishing and hunting in Eufaula. His passion for fixing old cars and attending sprint races was well-known throughout Indiana.

A man of many hobbies, Joe loved to go out on his pontoon, go camping, and engage in friendly competition while bowling and golfing on the Wii. His love for life was infectious, and he approached each day with enthusiasm and a smile that could light up a room.

Most importantly, Joe was a family man of his girls and God. Mary was his number one, and together they built a life built on God and cherished moments. His children and grandchildren were the pride of his life, and he instilled in them the values of kindness, friendship, and love.

Joe's spirit will be deeply missed, but the memories of his loving, kind, and friendly nature will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was truly a man who embodied the best of what it means to be human: all about God, family, and friends, leaving an indelible mark on the world.

A celebration of life will be on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 1:00pm in the Sunset Memorial Park Chapel with Pastor Beauford Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 4pm until 6pm.
