Joseph Terence O’Byrne of the Bertha Community passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at his residence.  He was 73 years of age.


A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ozark with Father Fred Boni, Father Patrick Gallagher and Deacon John Ross officiating.  Burial will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Bertha with military honors and Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing.  Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, June 28, at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, 600 Beacon Pkwy. West, Suite 860, Attn: Alabama Chapter Memorial, Birmingham, AL 35209.


Mr. O’Byrne was born November 22, 1939 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania to the late Leo O’Byrne, Sr. and Mary Beatrice Corrigen O’Byrne.  He was a parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was the owner and operator at El Palacio in Dothan for 28 years.  Mr. O’Byrne was also a US Army Vietnam Veteran.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother to his family and will be greatly missed.


He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leo F. O’Byrne.


Mr. O’Byrne is survived by his wife of 47 years, Myra Grantham O’Byrne of Bertha; his daughter, Terry Lynn Parker of Dothan; his son, Leo Guy O’Byrne (Shannon) of Dothan; his sisters, Mary Butz of La-Varne, CA and Peggy Berardo of Warren Township, NJ; his brother, William O’Byrne (Irene) of N. Brunswick, NJ; mother-in-law, Mary Winifred; sister-in-law, Mary Grantham; also surviving are his grandchildren, Matthew Grantham Joyner, William Terence Joyner, Micah Daniel Parker and Sydney Danielle O’Byrne; and his great-grandson, Maddox Lee Tarrence Joyner.
