COTTONWOOD, AL…Joseph W. (Joe) Henderson, a resident of Cottonwood, Alabama, died early Thursday evening, August 21, 2014, in the Campbellton-Graceville Hospital in Graceville, Florida. He was 87.


            No services are planned at this time. Holman-Headland Mortuary, Headland, Alabama is in charge of arrangements.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.


            Mr. Henderson was born in Ware Shoals, South Carolina, son of the late Robert Franklin Henderson and Essie Lou Burton Henderson. He lived in Greenville, SC and Anderson, SC before moving to Cottonwood in 2012. Mr. Henderson was a retired rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service and was a veteran of the WWII and Korean Wars. He was a member of the Agnew Road Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by two infant children, Phillip Todd Henderson and Vanessa Jo Henderson, a sister, Helen Juanita Smith and her husband, Andy, and a brother, Charles Eugene Henderson, and his wife, Evelyn.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Betty June White Henderson and a son, Michael Alexander Henderson, both of Graceville, FL; three sisters, Margaret Vaigneur, and husband, Byron, Jackson, SC; Betty McNeely and husband, Samuel “Buzz”, Luray, VA; and Shirley Williams, Jacksonville, NC; three brothers, Melvin B. Henderson, and wife, Julie Ann, Cottonwood; Robert E. (Bobby) Henderson, and wife Marie, Easley, SC, and Haskell N. Henderson, and wife, Sara Tate, Ware Shoals, SC; and several nieces and nephews.
