Joyce Holloway Leiper was a resident of Dothan, Alabama and passed away on April 18, 2021. She was 93. Joyce was born on February 29, 1928 in Campbelton, Florida to the late Henry and Iona Worthy. She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Jim Holloway, second husband Jerry Waters, and her third husband Thomas J. Leiper, four brothers and two sisters. Joyce has left five generations of surviving family members including one sister Sue Barbrey, a son Benny Holloway and wife Pat, a daughter Brenda Holloway Herring and husband Don, a granddaughter Lydia Denise Holloway Wunschel and husband Paul, several great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joyce also leaves a very large and loving extended family of children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren that were related by marriage and by their hearts. All family lovingly referred to Joyce as “Mama Joyce”.

Joyce loved her family, friends, and pets. She attended Harvest Church in Dothan. Joyce was very active during her good health years in many organizations including the Marine Corp League, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Fleet Reserve, and the Eastern Star. She was an avid painter, maker of quilts, and spent many summers preparing delicious strawberry fig jelly. Joyce loved going to yard sales and home shopping with QVC. She took great pride in her home and yard and her hometown of Dothan and read the Dothan Eagle from cover to cover. The Taylor Senior Center was a favorite place to go and she cherished the friendships that she made there. Joyce enjoyed having visits from friends and family and always had a gift for those who visited her and who she loved.

The family wishes to thank all of the medical personnel that attended to Joyce during the last few years (Southern Clinic, Dr. Pynes Dermatologist, and Southern Bone and Joint). We also wish to thank Joyce’s neighbors Cora Brooks, Sherry Cook, Winnie Key and Robert Thompson for looking out for mom when family could not be there.
