ARITON…    Mrs. Joyce Marie Blackmon Hughes, a resident of Ariton, passed away on July 14, 2021, at her home. She was 73 years old.


     Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Adam Carlee officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Rocky Head with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.


     Mrs. Hughes was born on October 8, 1947, in Ozark, Alabama to Gertrude Harding Blackmon Walker and Comer Graves Blackmon. She married James Ross Hughes of Ariton in 1962. Together, Joyce and Ross owned and operated Hughes Brothers Parts and Services in Ariton for fifty years.


     Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Gertrude and Henry Walker; her father, Comer Blackmon and two grandchildren, Joseph and Jacob Hughes.


     She is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Ross Hughes, her sister Carolyn Adams, and brothers Ronald (Barbara), Donald (Pam), and Mike Walker. She is also survived by her children Penny (Danny) Wilson, Greg (Patricia) Hughes, and Connie (Sanjay) Derhgawen. Joyce was blessed with six grandchildren: Derek (Heather), Lauren (Thomas), Nickolas, Austin, Jay and Bryce, as well as one great-grandchild, Mason.      


       Serving as active pallbearers will be Derek Wilson, Thomas Jenkins, Nickolas Hughes, Austin Hughes, Jay Derhgawen, and Bryce Derhgawen.
