Joyce “Maw” M. Williams of Kinston passed away April 29, 2014 at home surrounded by her family. She was 69. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at New Life Assembly of God with the Rev. James Hataway and Rev. Charles Barwick officiating.


Joyce was born in Canton, IL on February 28, 1945 to the late Frank and Jenevie Grove Purtle. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one daughter, Glenda K. Harrison; one sister, Janet Huggins and one great grandson, Avery James Odom.


She is survived by her loving husband, James “Bigun” Williams of Kinston; five children, James William, Jr. of Atlanta, Janie Williams of Elba, Doug Williams, Jimmy Williams and Drenda Vela all of Waycross, GA; two sisters, Jaque Malone and Judy Shaw; one brother, Joe Purtel; seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
