There was much rejoicing in Heaven on September 29, 2022, when Joyce Pridgen Crews went to be with the Lord.

Joyce was born in lower Alabama on June 10, 1937, to Virgil and Imogene Pridgen.  Noted for her beauty, at age 15 she caught the eye of a handsome football player, Dwight “Shug” Crews.  They married halfway through Joyce’s senior year at Samson High School and she lived the rest of her life in the glow of Shug’s unconditional love.  They were the proud parents of Dr. Dwight Crews, Jr., and Ramona Crews.

Joyce was a Jill-of-all-trades: typist, florist, seamstress, hairstylist, and bookkeeper.  She enjoyed quilting and gardening.  She defined southern cooking, especially her famous biscuits.  Many knew her hospitality and kindness.

Two things she loved most were Eden Baptist Church, where she served as church secretary for decades, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Joyce was the proud grandmother of Kasee (Sparks) Heisterhagen, Dwight (Trae) Crews, III, Sarah (Sparks) Lochren, and Brooke Sparks.  Joyce’s great-grandchildren, William (Dubs) Heisterhagen, Edward (Teddy) Heisterhagen, Harper Joyce Lochren, and Anna Lochren delighted in her presence.  She never told them “no.”

Joyce was preceded in passing by her parents, Virgil and Imogene, her brother, Buddy Pridgen, her beloved son, Dwight, and many other brothers and sisters in Christ.  She is survived by her family, her brother, William Pridgen, and a community of friends who knew her as “Granny” and for whom she prayed without ceasing.

Services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 3, 2022 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva, AL with Rev. Dale Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that those wishing to remember Joyce contribute to the children’s charity of their choice.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.  You have been faithful….”  May you live a life as full and happy as Joyce Crews.
