Mrs. Joyce Williams Hughes, age 82 died peacefully on Friday, August 26, 2016 at her home in Hartford, Alabama.
The funeral will be held Monday, August 29, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at the Hartford First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Andy Gartman and Reverend Chris Eckert officiating. Burial will follow in the City of Hartford Cemetery, with Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service begins on Monday at the Hartford First United Methodist Church, in Hartford, Alabama.
Joyce graduated from Early County High School in Blakely, Georgia in 1953. She was employed with the Dothan Manufacturing as a Supervisor, prior to her employment with the Geneva County Board of Education in Geneva, Alabama. Joyce retired from her position with the Board of Education in 2004. During her employment she served faithfully in many capacities, to support the Superintendents, Principals and the Geneva County School System at large. She was an active member of the Hartford First United Methodist Church, in Hartford, Alabama.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, James R. Williams and Mida Parker Williams; a brother, James C. Williams, a brother-in-law, William McNeal; a father-in-law and mother-in-law, John A. Hughes, Sr. and Lovie Dell Childs Hughes, a brother-in law, John A. Hughes, Jr., a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jessie E. (Gene) Hughes and Betty Rhodes Hughes; a sister-in-law, Janet Jones Hughes; a nephew, John Gregory (Greg) Hughes and grandsons, Matthew Cannon and Brantley Brooks Murdock.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Bill Childs Hughes of Hartford, Alabama; a sister Betty Lou McNeal of Gordon, Alabama; sons, Rodney Hamrick of Dothan, Alabama and Steve Hamrick of Ashford, Alabama; a daughter and son-in law, Virginia Dell Hughes Murdock and Randall Murdock of Prattville, Alabama; grandsons, Phillip Hamrick of Dothan, Alabama; Daniel Thrasher of Los Angeles, California; Jesse and Parker Murdock of Prattville, Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Hartford First United Methodist Church, 205 South 3rd Avenue, Hartford, Alabama 36344.
Joyce was an exceptional seamstress, a devoted homemaker and embodied the spirit of a true “Southern Lady”. Joyce was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Pallbearers: John Jackson (J.J.) Hughes, Randolph Trammel Church, Todd Forehand, Chan Cox, Jody Childs and Todd Smith.
