 Juanita Killingsworth Snell

Juanita Killingsworth Snell, a resident of Dothan, died Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. She was 89.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2016 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Woodrow Farrington officiating.  Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main directing. The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. on Monday, one hour prior to service time.

Mrs. Snell was born Sept. 28, 1926 in Houston County to Ernest and Dovie Crawford Killingsworth. She attended elementary school in the Jellico Community and graduated from Wicksburg High School as co-valedictorian in 1944.  She attended Riley Business College and later worked with Kingan and Co., Wilson Co. and Sunnyland Packing Co. She was employed with Southeast Alabama Medical Center in the insurance department for 21 years prior to her retirement in 1988.  She also worked at the Dialysis Clinic from 1991-1999.

Mrs. Snell was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church  and several community organizations. She especially enjoyed teaching and judging the Children’s Bible Drills, Youth Bible Drills and Youth Speakers Tournaments for the Columbia Baptist Association and other associations in the area. She was a past officer for both the Dothan High School Band Boosters and Selma Street Elementary School PTA.

Mrs. Snell was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a friend to many. She made an everlasting impression on all who knew and loved her.

She is predeceased by her parents and her husband of 52 years, Jess Willard Snell.

Survivors include three children, Carol Gruber (Jerry) of Dothan, Willard Snell (Marie) of Nashville, TN, Ann Jordan (Mark) of Dothan; grandchildren, Melody Turner, Bill Turner (Beth), Rebecca Brooks (Christopher), Lacey Snell, Leah Cleary (Ryan), Jennifer Thompson (James), Jana Brown (Robert); great-grandchildren, Shelby Turner, Elijah Turner, Savannah Brooks, Owen Brooks, Brooklyn Brown.
