JULIA ANN BRYAN OWENS
DOTHAN. . .Julia Ann Bryan Owens, a resident of Dothan, died Friday night, December 18, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family. She was 64.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 21, 2015, in the First Baptist Church of Dothan with Dr. Johnny Fain and Reverend Gary Fleming officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Dothan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 300 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36303, or to Eagle’s Rest Ministries, P.O. Box 1102, Eufaula, AL 36027.
Mrs. Owens was born in Shorterville, Alabama on January 7, 1951, daughter of the late Robert Gordon (Jack) Bryan and Edna Grace Phillips Bryan. She was a 1969 graduate of Abbeville High School and received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Business Education from Troy University. Before attending Troy University, she attended classes at Wallace Community College where she met her husband, Charles. They married in 1971 and have resided in Dothan ever since. Julia taught at Dothan High School for ten years and left her position there to devote her time and days to her family that she loved so dearly. Julia’s interests were centered around her children’s activities. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach and lake with friends and family. Julia was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church for many years and is currently a member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a step-brother, Freddie Lee Hilyer, Jr.
Surviving relatives include her husband of forty-four years, Charles Edward Owens, Dothan; a daughter, Alicia Grace Owens, Dothan; a son, Brandon Leigh Owens and wife, Katie Beth, and grandchildren, Grayson Allen Owens and Charlie Ray Owens, all of Homewood, AL; her step-mother, Elizabeth Brown Hilyer, Shorterville; a step-brother, Joe Hilyer and wife, Felicia, Abbeville; a half-sister, Jackie Bryan Bolt and husband, Johnny, Abbeville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from the Owens family, Jenean and Steve Sprayberry, Rita and Doug Nichols, Carolyn and Van Horne, Larry and Nancy Owens.
Serving as active pallbearers will be the Owens family nephews.
The Owens family would like to thank everyone for all the prayers and support that were given during Julia’s courageous battle with cancer.
