JULIAN  ADAIR  BRANNON



HEADLAND…Julian Adair Brannon, a resident of Headland, died early Wednesday morning, March 12, 2014, at his home.  He was 95.


            Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 15, 2014 in the Headland United Methodist Church, with Reverend Phil Craddock and Mr. John S. Riley officiating. Military honors will be conducted in the sanctuary following the service. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:45 P.M. Saturday in the church Family Life Center.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Headland United Methodist Church Building Fund, 103 West King Street, Headland, AL 36345.


            Mr. Brannon was a lifelong resident of Headland, son of the late Lewis Thomas Brannon and Kate Woods Brannon. He was a 1937 graduate of Headland High School and attended Howard College in Birmingham. Mr. Brannon served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and participated in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.


            Mr. Brannon was an active member of the Headland United Methodist Church and served as the song leader of the Curry Woods Men’s Bible Class for many years. He was a charter member and twice President of the Henry County Cattlemen’s Association and was a life member of the Board of Directors of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association. Mr. Brannon formerly served as a member of the Headland City Council and, later, as a member of the Henry County Commission. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living former Henry County Commissioner. Mr. Brannon was engaged in cattle farming most of his adult lifetime. In earlier years, he was self- employed as a home builder. He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Brannon Shaw, and niece, Judy Shaw Armstrong.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Grace Vann Brannon, three sons, Dr. Wayne Brannon, Hillsboro, AL; Sam V. Brannon (Linda), and Sid Brannon, all of Headland; 14 grandchildren, Betsy Brannon Green (Butch), Curt Brannon (Sharon), Julie Brannon Brown (Larry), James Brannon (Pam), Amanda Brannon Adams, Will Brannon, Vann Brannon (Deborah), Zack Brannon (Gina), Clay Brannon, Katie Brannon Morgan, Libba Brannon, Lewis Brannon (Kata), Jennifer Brannon Holder, Kate Brannon Tillery (Richard); 34 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; Sisters-in-law, Kate Helen Luttrell (Roy), Columbus, GA; and Mary Owens Bryan, Headland; and a brother-in-law, Dr. James W. Vann, Headland; a beloved niece, Dr. Rita Shaw Rone (Bill), Gulf Breeze, FL; and several great-nieces and nephews.


            Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the grandsons and great-grandsons.
