Julie Ann Duby

Julie Ann Duby, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, in Ozark, Alabama, at the age of 65. Born on February 22, 1959, in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, Julie's life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and unwavering faith.

Julie's journey began in Ohio, but she moved to Breezeswept, Florida, at the tender age of two. She attended Rockledge High School, where she displayed her strength and independence by earning her GED ahead of her peers. Julie spent some time working with her father at NASA, a period during which she absorbed the values of dedication and hard work. However, her heart was in caring for others, leading her back to service as a waitress before fully embracing her role as a homemaker, nurturing her home and family with every ounce of her being. She cherished moments spent sitting on the balcony listening to the gentle sea breeze carrying the soothing sound of waves crashing against the shore.

In her professional life, Julie's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when she opened Julie's Pet Jungle in Kingsbay, Georgia. Her love for animals was evident in every corner of her store and in the way she cared for every creature that came into her life. But above all, Julie's devotion to her family was her crowning achievement. She was the beloved wife of George Duby for 40 years, a whirlwind romance that began with their meeting and led to marriage within just two weeks.

Together, Julie and George raised three children into the world: sons Randy Camper and Richard Duby, and daughter Rachel Carroll. Julie's love extended to her grandchildren, Courtney Camper and Cody Carroll, who were the apples of her eye. Her family was her pride and joy, and she fostered a home that was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the aroma of her delicious cooking.

Julie's life was marked by movement and change, as she and George relocated frequently due to his Navy career, finally settling in Newton, Alabama, in 2005. Through it all, her faith remained a constant, her spirit a pillar for her family. She was an active member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Dothan, where she found great solace and community.

Her siblings held a special place in her heart, and she is survived by her brother Jerry Gardner and sister-in-law Melissa, as well as being preceded in death by her parents, John Charles Gardner and Marsha Wright Gardner, and her brothers, J.D., Jeff, and Jody Gardner.

Julie's zest for life was evident in her favorite pastimes. She adored hummingbirds, symbols of joy and lightness of being, and her favorite day was Tuesday, for it was the day that marked the beginning of her lifelong journey with George. Her laughter was infectious, her hospitality unmatched, and her presence a comfort to all who knew her.

Julie was a loving, friendly, and faith-filled woman, whose spirit could best be encapsulated by the words of Mother Teresa: "Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier." This was the essence of Julie's life; she spread love and happiness to everyone she encountered.

As we say goodbye to Julie Ann Duby, we celebrate the extraordinary life she led and the countless lives she touched. Her legacy of love, family, and faith will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her. Julie's radiant smile and the joy she brought to our lives will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 3:00pm in the Sunset Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Aaron Dickinson officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service in the chapel.
