ROCKY HEAD COMMUNITY…. Mrs. June Smith Whitehead, a resident of the Rocky Head Community, near Ariton, died late Thursday morning, April 25, 2019 at her home. She was 82.


            Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 27. 2019 in the Mt. Olive Cemetery with Reverend Joe Underwood officiating. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Olive Cemetery Fund c/o Gerald Goodson, 1681 Highway 51, Ariton, AL 36311 or to Southern Care Hospice, 2576 Montgomery Highway, Suite 2, Dothan, AL 36301.


            Mrs. Whitehead, daughter of the late James W. Smith and Jessie Eunola Smith, was a native of Houston County near Rehobeth. She was a 1955 graduate of Rehobeth High School. Mrs. Whitehead formerly lived in Dothan, Geneva, Brewton, and Montgomery area before moving to Ariton in 2005. She was formerly employed with Leon’s and Robbins and McGowin in Brewton as a seamstress in addition to doing alterations in her home for many years. Mrs. Whitehead was a member of the Rocky Head Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years in June of 2018, James A. Whitehead.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Sandra Gamble (John), Hartselle, AL; a son, James S. Whitehead, Sr., Rocky Head Community; three grandchildren, Jennifer Fowler (Nathan), Jessica Harpe (Jacob), and James S. Whithead, Jr. (Savannah); four great-grandchildren, Hunter Michael Whitehead,  Bella Griffin Fowler,  Cooper Brooks Whitehead, Grace Lynn Whitehead; one great-grandchild on the way; sister, LaRue Hickman (Frank); sister-in-law, Doris Smith; brother-in-law, Gerald Sammons; and many beloved nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Nathan Fowler, Jacob Harpe, Jerry Sammons, John Faust, Ben Johnson, and Thomas Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Fairlan Mobley, Bill Logan, and Max Willoughby.
