Karen Adams Land, a resident of Glen Allen, Virginia, died of pancreatic cancer on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at her residence.  She was 64.

The family will receive friends in the Holman-Headland Mortuary from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday. The funeral services will be held in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with her brother, Rev. Larry Adams and nephew, Rev. Clint Adams officiating at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 5, 2018.  Burial will follow after the service at Karen’s beloved childhood church and community at the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Cemetery between Headland and Columbia.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Bible-Teaching Ministry of Alistair Begg at Truth for Life online ministry at www.Truthforlife.org.  Mrs. Land attended Goodwill Baptist Church in Henrico, Virginia.

Karen was born in Dothan, Alabama and reared in the Pleasant Plains Community.  She was the daughter of the late Grady Melvin Adams and Ruth Davis Adams.  She was graduated from Headland High School in 1972, attended Wallace Community College, and was also graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S. Degree in Social Work in December 1975.  Mrs. Land was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Adams Stevens, a brother, Michael David Adams, a niece, Jennifer Diane Adams and her beloved father-in-law, Huston Land.

After graduating from The University of Alabama, Karen was as a Social Worker at the Department of Pensions and Security in Dothan, Alabama.  Later she moved to Dallas, Texas where she worked as a legal secretary.   Four years later, Karen returned to Alabama and returned to work for the State of Alabama as a Social Worker in Abbeville, Alabama.

After marrying Bruce in 1981, they moved to Phoenix, AZ where she worked as a Nuclear Security Screening Analyst for the Arizona Nuclear Power Project.  The next move took Karen and Bruce to Fredericksburg, Virginia where she worked in the Human Resources Department at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia.  Later, Karen and Bruce moved to Richmond, VA where she was an Executive or Administrative Assistant at several insurance and IT companies.

Karen very much enjoyed living a quiet and peaceful life in the sweet home God gave her and Bruce.  Her greatest joy in life was in knowing her Lord Jesus Christ, studying His Word, being wife to Bruce, and being a keeper of the home with decorating and organizing.  Karen also enjoyed swimming, bicycling, walking, reading, craft shows, antique stores, traveling in their motor home, studying history, reading books and watching movies based on the works of Jane Austin and Charles Dickens.  Finally, she enjoyed raising her precious little Chihuahuas; Buddy, Bucky, and Scout.

Surviving relatives include her husband of 37 years, Bruce W. Land of Glen Allen, Virginia;  two brothers, Jerry D. Adams (Jean), of Headland, AL  and Rev. Larry N. Adams (Marilyn), of Webb, Al;  one sister, Gail Adams Sloan of Humble, Texas;  mother-in-law, Clo Land of Panama City, Florida;  two brothers-in-law, Mark Land (Linda) of Cartersville, Georgia and Kevin Land (Carolyn) of Panama City, Florida;  nine nephews, six nieces, four great-nephews, nine great-nieces, and 1 great-great-nephew.

Nephews of Karen will be serving as pallbearers:  Dr. Jeffrey D. Adams, Dr. Craig B. Adams, Rev. Clint Adams, Clay Adams, Chad Stevens, Rhett Stevens, and Brent Nall.

Karen stressed that she wanted to thank her husband and her doctors and nurses at Bon Secour’s Palliative Medicine and Legacy Hospice for care during her illness.  She specifically wanted to thank her Hospice Nurse Crystal Simpach and most importantly, her sister Gail Adams Sloan for the many trips made to Virginia to provide loving hands-on care as only a sister can provide.
