ABBEVILLE, ALABAMA. . .Katherin Zimmerman Byrnes, a resident of Abbeville, Alabama, died Thursday afternoon, January 2, 2020, at her home after a long painful journey. She was 76.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Byrnes was born in Sidney, Ohio, daughter of the late George John Zimmerman and Ruth Ellen (Anderson) Zimmerman. Over the years, she lived in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois before moving to Abbeville in 2005. Kathy was an accomplished legal secretary and executive assistant at several companies and excelled at complex litigation and family law matters. She was a cancer survivor and volunteered with the American Cancer Society. Kathy was also a member of the Abbeville Garden Club.
Mrs. Byrnes was a proud member of the Liberty United Methodist Church where she developed many loving friendships. She was preceded in death by her brother, George Zimmerman and a sister, Emily (Zimmerman) Davis.
Mrs. Byrnes is survived by her beloved husband, Michael Dennis “Mike” Byrnes; three loving children, Jennifer Kuhn, Wauconda, IL; Whitford (Jill) Kuhn, Lake Zurich, IL; and Alissa (Mike) deRamus, Lake in the Hills, IL; two step-sons, Tim Byrnes, Woodbridge, VA; and Dan Byrnes, (Terezinha), Cocoa, FL; four amazing grandchildren, Julia, Connor, Luke and Abby, two sisters, Martie Salemi and Reeny Linstrom, three brothers, Bill Zimmerman, Joe Zimmerman and Bob Zimmerman.
Kathy was a loving, generous soul who made everyone feel welcome and never let anyone leave her home hungry. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
