DOTHAN. . .Katherine Dyson Kirkland Sanders, a resident of Dothan, died early Monday morning, October 28, 2024, in Crowne Health Care of Eufaula. She was 83.

            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 30, 2024, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Rodney Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Camp Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, near Columbia. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Headland. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
            Katherine Kirkland Sanders was born and reared in Henry County, near Haleburg, daughter of the late Henry Dyson and Florrie McGriff Dyson. She attended Houston County High School in Columbia. Katherine formerly lived in Montgomery twenty-six years before returning to Henry County, near Columbia, in 1988. While living in Montgomery, she was employed by Shoe City as Store Manager. Katherine moved to Dothan in 1996 where she was a member of Pathway Baptist Church. Katherine was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Montgomery. She served as a volunteer for Wiregrass Hospice and at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Katherine was preceded in death by the father of her children, William Horace Kirkland, a grandson, Michael Davis, a special uncle, Henry A. “Jack” McGriff, several sisters and brothers.

            Surviving relatives include her husband, Marrell Sanders, two daughters, Vickey Culbreth (Steve), Dothan; and Kathy Taylor (Charles), Montgomery; two sons,             Dr. Dennis Kirkland (Lora), Leonard, TX; and Danny Kirkland, Foley, AL; a brother, Donald Dyson (Cathy), Columbia; grandchildren, Stephen Davis (Candice), Brad Davis (Georgia), Chris Culbreth (Sarah), Brandon Taylor (Megan), Andrew Taylor, Ben Taylor (Chancelee), Aubrey Kirkland (Angelina), Daniel Kirkland (Alicia), Paul Kirkland (Jennifer), Joseph Kirkland (Kayla), Nathan Kirkland, Abigail Hughes (Wesley) and Deborah Gandi (Herald); numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  

            Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

            The family would like to express their appreciation to SouthernCare Hospice and to the staff of Crowne Heath Care of Eufaula for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Sanders during her illness.
