Kathleen Rice Sullivan, 91, formally of Dothan, died May 2, 2012 at the Dunwoody Pines assisted living facility in Atlanta, Georgia.
Kathleen was born in 1921 in Mayfield, Kentucky, the oldest child of the late Harry M. Rice and the late Myrtle Walton Rice. She was the widow of James A. Sullivan, to whom she was married for 63 years. During those years, she traveled with and supported her husband in his career in the U. S. Army and in retirement until his death in 2003.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 2 P. M. from the Chapel of Ward Wilson Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memory Hill Cemetery, next to her loving husband, her father and her stepmother, Alta M. Rice. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 P. M. one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Mrs. Sullivan was preceded in death by her youngest grandchild, Theresa Alison Smyth and by two brothers, Harry Lee Rice and Willard Rice, Sr. and one sister Helen Rice Gibson.
Surviving are two daughters; Judy Sullivan Russell and husband Wayne of Atlanta and Janice Sullivan Smyth and husband Richard of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; Three grandchildren, Dr. Michael O’Neal of Columbus, Georgia, Patrick O’Neal and wife Carlie of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee and Caitlin Smyth Teller and husband Andrew of Corvallis, Oregon. In addition to her daughters and their families, Mrs. Sullivan leaves behind a brother, Glenn Rice of Payson, Arizona; a sister Shirley Rice of Fulton, Kentucky and a sister in law Frances Rice of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and several nieces and nephews
