OZARK…Kathy Jo King Hjelle, a beloved member of the community and a successful businesswoman, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023, in Montgomery, Alabama. She was born on January 26, 1948, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.


      Kathy had an exceptional career in which she ran a boat shop with passion and dedication. Her commitment to providing excellent service and her vast knowledge of boats made her business thrive. Kathy’s customers always admired her expertise and trusted her advice. She will be remembered as an influential figure in the boating industry.


     Education played a crucial role in Kathy’s life. She completed her high school education at Lake Field High School and later graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Bemidji State University. Her academic achievements were a testament to her determination and thirst for knowledge.


     Beyond her professional pursuits, Kathy had various hobbies and interests that brought joy to her life. She loved exploring different parts of the United States through travel and embraced the diversity of its landscapes and cultures and above all she loved the ocean. As an avid sports fan, Kathy was particularly passionate about supporting the Minnesota Vikings Football team. She found great pleasure in watching her niece coach volleyball and made sure never to miss a game. These activities showcased Kathy’s vibrant spirit and zest for life.


     Kathy will be deeply missed by her surviving family members and friends. She is survived by her mother, Corrine King. Kathy’s memory will also be cherished by her sons Eric Boben and wife, Laveta (Ozark) and Sean Boben (Minnesota), her sisters, Susan Zarn and husband, Mike (Minnesota) and Amy Voss and husband, Darold (Minnesota). Furthermore, she leaves behind several grandchildren: Michael, Mishayla, Chance, Serena, Kaylana, and great-grandchild Elijah Boben. She is preceded in death by her father, Stan King, her loving husband of thirty years, Carter Hjelle.


     Being remembered for her kindness, charisma, and unwavering love for her family and friends will forever etch Kathy Jo King Hjelle’s name in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy will continue to inspire others to pursue their dreams with diligence and determination.


     In this time of mourning, we extend our condolences to Kathy’s family and friends, as they navigate through this difficult period. May they find solace in the beautiful memories shared with Kathy and may her soul rest in eternal peace.


     In keeping with the wishes of the family, there are no public services planned at this time. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.
