Katie Lou Williams Messer, a resident at Wiregrass Nursing Home, Geneva, Alabama, made her transition from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Thursday, December 24, 2015.  She was 97.


Mrs. Messer was a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She loved and was loved by her family and her many friends.


Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2015 in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva, Alabama with Rev. Elbert Smith officiating.  Burial will follow at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, Samson, Alabama, where she was a very active member until the past few years.  She loved her church family very much.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.


Memorial contributions may be made to New Prospect Baptist Church, 579 County Road 19, Samson, Alabama, 36477, or to your favorite charity.  We are asking that flowers be omitted. 


 Mrs. Messer was born September 24, 1918, to the late Murray Lee and Eudora Lee Williams in Samson, Alabama.  She was a homemaker, working outside the home only six months at Van Heusen, Geneva, Alabama and two years for Cross Trails Regional Library out of Geneva, Alabama.


She is survived by her children, Linda Adkison (Pat), Gadsden, Alabama, Betty Kelly (Bobby), Hartford, Alabama, Jacquelyn Howell (Lawrence), Chancellor, Alabama, Samuel Messer (Laura), Samson, Alabama, and Michael Messer (Pam), Westville, Florida; grandchildren, Deborah Miller (Jeff), Greg Adkison, Curt Kelly (Gilda), Warren Kelly (Marcie), Jason Kelly (Emily), Anna Jones (Chris), Tom Kelly (Joni), Dawn Jones (Randall), Wendy Metz (Glen), Laura Ann Herman (Gene), Donna Brown, Sherrie Holley (Mark), Brian Messer (Lacy), Jeff Messer (Megan), and Martee’ Thomas; more than thirty great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.


Mrs. Messer was preceded in death by her husband, Bryant Culbert Messer; her parents; and her eight siblings. 


The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff at Wiregrass Nursing Home in Geneva, Alabama for their wonderful care for the past three and a half years.  A special thank you to Dr. Hayden Childs who cared for our mother before and after being in the nursing home.  You were the best and she loved you. 


The family would also like to thank Gentiva Hospice for their very loving care for this past month.  Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons.
