Katie Nell Kirksey of Dothan, Al., entered her eternal rest Wednesday, April 29, 2015. She was 92.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, May 2, 2015, at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Steve Trail, pastor of First Freewill Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, and burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
She was a member of Berean Baptist Church located on Cottonwood Rd, Dothan, AL. She had the heart of a servant-always helping. She volunteered at Flowers Hospital for approximately 10 years. She loved to do for others but felt that she was imposing if someone tried to do for her. She was active in the Senior Center at Evergreen Presbyterian Church. Her hobbies included handcrafts, crossword puzzles, and reading. She was “Miss Fix-it.”
While employed by Civil Service, she was stationed at several Air Force bases. After 30 years of service as confidential secretary to the Tactical Air Commander, she retired from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Air Force Base.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charley Espy Kirksey (Cub) and Lillie Mae Robinson Kirksey, brothers Charles Hayes Kirksey, killed in Normandy, France during World War II, and Buren Rudolph Kirksey, sister Joan Meredith Davenport.
Survivors include sisters Carrie Long, Enterprise, Al., Geraldine Hall, Dothan, AL., Maxine McDonald, Dothan, Al., Faye Dukes and husband Derrell of Cowarts, Al., several nieces and nephews, including a very special nephew, Corey Peters.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center 1314 Westgate Pkwy, Suite 2, Dothan, Al. 36303.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Calvin Reid and staff on Camellia Court hallway at Westside Terrace for their care for Katie while she was there.
