Katie Nell Miles, a loving and faith-filled woman, passed away peacefully at Southeast Health Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama, on May 25, 2023, after a recent illness. Born on July 25, 1930, in Dothan to the late Ellis and Mitchell Maddox Jarvis, she was a beacon of love and selflessness throughout her 92 years of life.
Katie Nell was a 1949 graduate of Houston County High School and attended Troy University, where she met and married the love of her life, Freeman Morgan Miles, Jr. Together, they shared a beautiful and inspiring 65-year marriage until Freeman's passing. Katie Nell's devotion to her family was unwavering, and she is survived by her son, Jeffery Miles, her chosen son, Jonathan Godfrey, her granddaughters, Kristen Miles Rollins and Jean Elizabeth Miles, as well as her two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her loving sister, Myra Faye Atwood.
Throughout her professional life, Katie Nell was a dedicated bookkeeper for JCPenney and Kress Department Store for many years. In 1969, she began working alongside her husband at Miles Ford Tractor, where she continued her career until her retirement in 1990. Her exceptional work ethic and commitment to her family's business left a lasting impact on those who knew her.
Katie Nell's love for her family and friends was evident in her passion for food, which she considered her love language. No one left her home without a piece of her delicious pound cake, a testament to her generous nature. Her selflessness extended to her community as well, she was always willing to help anyone in need.
As we celebrate Katie Nell's life, we are reminded of the words of Helen Keller: "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." Katie Nell embodied this sentiment by living a life filled with love, faith, and selflessness, touching the hearts of countless individuals throughout her time on earth.
A celebration of Katie Nell's life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Joel Lassiter and Rev. Daulton Keel officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home on Saturday morning from 10-11 am. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jason Reneau, Charles Reneau, Harold Raley, Allen Snellgrove, Steve Lanton, and Wayne Jenkins.
Katie Nell's legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those who were fortunate enough to know her. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Elizabeth Snellgrove, Katie Nell's wonderful and caring caregiver, as well as the staff of DaySpring Hospice for the excellent care and compassion they showed during their time of need.
In her memory, let us strive to live lives of love, faith, and selflessness, just as Katie Nell did. And as we gather to honor her, let us remember the words of Maya Angelou: "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Katie Nell Miles made everyone she encountered feel loved, cherished, and valued, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
