ECHO COMMUNITY. . .Kenneth Eugene “Punk” Ammons, a resident of the Mt. Pisgah community, near Echo, died early Monday morning, March 7, 2016, at his home. He was 79.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 9, 2016, in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Elliott and Reverend Jason Whitmier officiating and a eulogy to be given by Keith Ammons. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.


            Mr. Ammons was a lifelong resident of the Mt. Pisgah community of Dale County, son of the late John Thomas Ammons and Nettie Laura Newsome Ammons. He served his country in the Army National Guard in the Headland Unit during the Berlin Crisis. Mr. Ammons was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. He was retired employee of the Dale County Road & Bridge Department. Mr. Ammons was well known for making divinity candy. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Faye Ammons, an infant son, Ovie Ammons, two brothers, Ovie and Frank Ammons.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Alline Haymon Ammons, a daughter, Barbara Moore (Eric Shropshire), Newville; a son, Terry Ammons, Echo Community; a sister, Jane Potts, Dothan; two brothers, Roger Ammons (Shirley), Echo Community; Emmett Ammons (Betty), Midland City; four grandchildren, Shasta Ward (Jeff), Tiffany McCardle (Adam Griffin), Willie Ammons and Kenneth Ammons; several great-grandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren.; a special canine friend, J.R.; several nieces and nephews including a very special niece, Emelie Woodham (Roger).


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Jeff Ward, Adam Griffin, Willie Ammons, Steven Ammons, Alan Moore and Chase Ward.
