Ken Hopkins, a resident of Dothan, passed away early Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Southeast Health following a brief illness. He was 82.


A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2023, at Westgate Church of Christ with Minister Chris Jones officiating. A Celebration of Life for Ken will be held at a later date in Murray, Kentucky.


Ken was born June 9, 1941, in Coldwater, Kentucky to the late Herman Edison and Annie Mae Spiceland Hopkins. He spent the early years of his life in Kentucky and was a graduate of Kirksey High School. Following high school, he attended Murray State University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in agriculture. After college, he went to work for Rhone-Poulenc Chemicals, primarily selling chemicals to golf courses. Ken was adventurous and loved the outdoors, playing tennis, and traveling. Additionally, he enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America (GCSAA). He and Barbara moved from Arizona in 2020, making Dothan their home, and was a member of Westgate Church of Christ. Ken will be remembered as a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all.


He is preceded in death by, his parents; a son, Brian Hopkins; a daughter, Deborah Collier.


He is survived by, his loving wife, Barbara Hopkins; two step-daughters, Jackie Willis (Jason) of Taylor, AL; Carley Peiss of Hollandale, WI; one sister, Kathy Watters (Danny) of Murray, KY; two grandchildren, Chris Collier (Cheyenne Lewis) and Caleigh Oltmann (Jay),  both of Oak Ridge, TN; two step-grandchildren, Issac Sandoval and Caleb Willis, both of Taylor, AL; two great-grandchildren, Rosalie and River Oltmann, both of Oak Ridge, TN; two nephews, Brad and Jaime Forrester.
