KENNETH  R. STINSON


 


MIDLAND CITY…Kenneth R. (Sonny) Stinson, a resident of Midland City, died early Monday morning, July 14, 2014, in a Dothan hospital. He was 71.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, in the Cedar Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Benny Cole officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Mr. Stinson was a native of Grimes and lived in Midland City all his adult lifetime.  He retired as a helicopter mechanic from Sikorsky at Ft. Rucker. Mr. Stinson was a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.  In earlier years, he was actively involved as a coach in Pee Wee Football and other youth sports and was also an avid softball player and Alabama football fan. Mr. Stinson was preceded in death by his mother, Robbie C. Stinson.


            Surviving relatives include his wife of fifty years, Emily Mallory Stinson, a daughter, Layna Stinson Cook (Jonathan), two sons, Kenneth R. Stinson, Jr., and Wade Stinson, three sisters, Frances Ussery, Jackie Kelly, and Joan Blackmon, three brothers, Larry Stinson, James T. Stinson (Anne), and Allen Stinson (Melanie), five grandchildren, Taylor Stinson, Mallory Stinson, Kaylynn Stinson, Matthew Stinson, and Emmi Stinson, brothers-in law and sisters-in-law from the Mallory family, John Harvey and Joan Mallory, Wayne Mallory, Sandra and Dennis Cole, and Geraldine Mallory, numerous nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Patrick Mallory, Dennis Cole, Tony Mallory, Craig Blackmon, Chris Stinson, and Derek Mallory. The men of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
