HEADLAND. . .Kenneth W. Welch, a resident of  County Road 83, Headland, passed away Sunday night, February 19, 2012, in a Dothan hospital with his family by his side. He was 77. 



            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 22, 2012, in the Concord Baptist Church with Pastor James A. Rich and Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.



            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Concord Baptist Church c/o Janara Parrish, 1350 County Road 14, Newville, AL  36353.



            Mr. Welch was born and reared in Barbour County, near Blue Springs, son of the late Stonie Harrison Welch and Clara Mae Henderson Welch. He moved to Henry County, near Headland, as a young adult. Mr. Welch was engaged in farming most of his adult lifetime. After his retirement from farming, he was employed by Golden Peanut Company and also owned and operated Welch’s Boiled Peanut Stand in Headland.  Mr. Welch was a member of the Concord Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Shane Welch, a sister, Sybil Spivey and a brother, Thomas E. Welch.



            Surviving relatives include his wife, Shirley Smothers Welch, a daughter, Renae Walker and husband David, two sons, Keith Welch and wife, Leigh, and Mark Welch, all of Headland; two sisters, Wisteria Welch Key and Joy Smith and husband Robert, all of Headland; a brother Kendrick Welch and wife, Mavis, Headland; four grandchildren, Kelly Welch (Laura), Wesley Welch (Heather), Lauren Welch, and Jaycie Walker; five great-grandchildren, Caleb, Hunter, Olivia, Zoey and Cash; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Mathell Sellers, Wyno Harris and Wayne Smothers (Marie).



            Serving as active pallbearers will be LaDon Spivey, Larry Spivey, Phillip Smith, Paul Smith, Michael Welch and Stevie Key. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Welch’s grandchildren.
