Kess Lawson Forrester, III, 73 died on February 13, 2012 following complications from surgery. A native of Dothan, Al, he was born on July 5, 1938. He was the son of Kess L Forrester, Jr and Leonora Hatcher Foy and Benton Q Foy. Lawson had resided in Fort Walton Beach, Fl, for the past 10 years.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ann Thomley Forrester, his daughter Allison Forrester Kosters of Jacksonville Fl and his son Robert Lawson Forrester of Holly Springs, Ga. He had two grandchildren, Cameryn Ann Kosters and Zachary Lawson Forrester. He is also survived by his sister Patricia F Horn (The Rev. Peter M.) of Birmingham, a brother John M. Forrester (Barbara H) of Niceville and his brother Benton Quick Foy, Jr (Maureen M) of Nashville. He was very close to his sister in law, Jacquelyn T. Moore of Dothan and brother in law R Raley Thomley (Agnes Ann Moore) of Newbern, Tn. There were also many nieces and nephews that he was fond of.

Lawson graduated from Dothan High School, Auburn University and The Graduate School of Banking at LSU. He was an avid sailor who taught himself how to sail by reading books and magazines. He won many trophys racing his Cal 27 on Lake Lanier, Ga. He also raced in the Ft Lauderdale to Key West race many times as well as the Suncoast Race Week in Tampa Bay. One of his favorite wins was in 1983 in the 3rd Annual Riches to Rags race from Seagrove Beach to Grayton beach with his son on the 4th of July. They won with a borrowed and leaking Hobie Cat. After moving to Ft Walton Beach in 2001 he switched to a motor boat for his wife and grandchildren to enjoy.

A Vice President of the Bank of America in Business Banking, in the Atlanta area, he retired at 59 and then worked at 2 more banks. When he fully retired, he played lots of tennis and golf and watched all the sports he could on tv especially Auburn Sports. He did wood working and really got into photography where he learned Photoshop on the computer. He liked to restore old photographs for his family and friends. He and his family lived in Dunwoody, Ga. for many years before moving to Florida.

As he requested, there will be no formal funeral, but sometime in the spring there will be a celebration of his life with family and close friends at his house. Memorials may be made to the Arts and Design Society of Fort Walton Beach at 17 First St SE in Fort Walton Beach, Fl 32548 for the establishment of a Lawson Forrester Award in photography as well as a scholarship.
