Lamar Gene Daniels, Sr. of Samson, AL passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023. He was 87 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Samson First Methodist Church with Rev. Phil Craddock officiating. Burial will follow at Travelers Rest Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made in memory of Mr. Daniels to Samson First Methodist Church 204 West Main Street, Samson, AL 36477.   

Mr. Daniels was born in Bonifay, FL on September 28, 1935, to the late Zack Lincoln “Z.L.” and Pearl Stephens Daniels. He graduated from Samson High School in 1953. Gene served four years in the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from Troy University in 1964, and the University of Tennessee with a master’s degree in 1965. While studying at the University of Tennessee he completed all but his dissertation for an Ed Doctorate degree. After college he taught at Enterprise State Junior College, and Samson High School where he also coached. Gene served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1979 until 1983.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his only daughter, Jena Daniels Stinson; siblings, Judith Daniels Walker and Donnie Zack Daniels.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Ann Crews Daniels; son, Lamar Gene Daniels, II (Starr); and their children,  Lamar Gene “Tripp” Daniels, III, Maddox Wilde Daniels; son-in-law, Darwin Patrick Stinson and his and Jena’s children, Darwin Patrick Stinson, II (Ryleigh), and  Daniel Peyton Stinson; great grandchildren, Darwin Patrick “Emerson” Stinson, III, and Lincoln Scott Stinson; sister, Carolyn Daniels Daughtry; sister-in-law, Jeanette Hayes Daniels; and several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Ussegilo, Foy Fenn, Sonny Crews, Terry Crews, Danny Frank Faulk, and Darwin Stinson, I.
