ABBEVILLE. . .Lamar Wilkinson, a resident of Abbeville, died  early Thursday morning, February 18, 2016, at his home. He was 75.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 20, 2016, in the Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Tom Anderson and Reverend Teddy Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church “Building Fund” or “Van Fund”, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.


            Alfred Lamar Wilkinson was a native of the Edwin Community, son of the late Preston Flauzelle Wilkinson and Evaleta Trawick Wilkinson. He was a graduate of Abbeville High School and received a B. S. Degree in Animal Science from Auburn University. Mr. Wilkinson was retired from the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant. In earlier years, he managed several farm operations and also owned and operated a hog business in Abbeville. He lived in Abbeville most of his adult lifetime where he was a former member of the Abbeville Lions Club. An active member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Mr. Wilkson served as a Deacon, taught a Men’s Sunday School Class, served as Sunday School Superintendent, and worked with the R. A.’s. He was recently awarded a lifetime plaque for service as a Deacon in the church. Mr. Wilkinson was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Wilkinson and two sisters.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Shandra Young Wilkinson; a daughter, Pam Sanders (Steven), Birmingham; a son, David Wilkinson (Kelly), Cottage Grove, MN; a sister, Sheila Cestaro, Dothan; a brother, Joel Wilkinson (Brenda), Red Level, AL; six grandchildren, Seth Wilkinson (Ashley), Matthew Wilkinson, Gabrielle Wilkinson, Andrew Wilkinson, Ashleigh Draft, and Caitlyn Draft; three great-grandchildren, Gavin Wilkinson, Marlee Wilkinson and Alanah Draft; a brother-in-law, Jack Young (Jayne), Shelby, AL.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be the Deacons of the Calvary Baptist Church.
