Lance Corporal Jason Nicholas Barfield, 22, of Ashford, Alabama, was killed in action Monday, October 24, 2011 in Helman Province of Afghanistan while serving in the war against terrorism.
Funeral services with full military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Ashford High School with Reverend Marcus Murdock, Reverend Chris Williams, and Reverend Jay Ward officiating. Other speakers will be Doug Sinquefield, James “Bubba” Odom and Brian Alloway. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2011 at Ashford High School. Burial will follow in Center Baptist Church Cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in Jason’s honor to either the Jason Barfield Memorial Scholarship Fund C/O Midsouth Bank 520 North Broadway Street Ashford, AL 36312 or to the Wounded Warrior Project 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300 Jacksonville, FL 32556.
Surviving are his parents, Ray and Kelli Culverhouse Barfield, Cowarts, AL; Fiancé Joyanna Champlin, Twenty Nine Palms, CA; five brothers, Chris (Tina) Barfield, Midland City, AL, Phillip Barfield, Germany, Zack (Becky) Barfield, Dothan, AL, Airman 1st Class Travis (Crystal) Barfield, Spokane, WA, Lance Corporal Lucas Barfield, Chesapeake, VA; two sisters, Jennifer Peacock, Dothan, AL, Savannah Barfield, Cowarts, AL; grandmother, Mary Ann “Memaw” Culverhouse, Cowarts, AL; grandfather, Garey (Mildred) Culverhouse, Fulton, MS; Ronnie “Grandpa” Pipkin, Webb, AL; two aunts, Shirley (Larry) Cobb, Cowarts, AL and Carolyn (George) Shiver, Hartford, AL. Jason also had his selected family including, Tim & Gwen Jordan, Maeghan, Tyler, and Katie Jordan, Kelly and Bucky Eades, Taylor and Travis Trawick, Anthony, Carmen, Sol Long, George Pappas, Weston Cherry, Nina Preston, Jeremy and Lissy Bush, Jessica Bush, Kolton Zachary, Doug Tedder, Chris and Barbara Williams, Blake Smith, several nieces and nephews.
Also sharing in his memory are the Alumni of Ashford High School and The Sound of the Wiregrass Ashford High School Band.
Jason also leaves his Marine brothers to continue the fight against world terrorism.
For all of those blessed to have heard, the words, “EVERY DAY IS A GOOD DAY” we will continue to cherish his memory.
