Larry Dale Hovey

Mr. Larry Dale Hovey "Coach" of Louisville passed away Saturday, September 3, 2021, in a Dothan hospital. He was 69.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, September 5, 2021, at Pine Level Baptist Church. The family and close friends will have visitation from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m., and from 2 p.m. until the time of services the family will receive friends. Pastor Anthony Hovey will officiate. Tommy Danford and Leamon Littlefield will provide special music with pianist accompanist, Beverly Danford. Burial will follow in the Pine Level Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Russell Hagler officiating at the graveside. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to G.W. Long School in Coach Larry Hovey's honor. Serving as pallbearers will be Jared Long, Shaun Thompson, Baker Creel, Kenneth Houston, Keith Houston, Nick Strickland, Shane Bowman. Serving as ushers will be Scott Meyers and Tyler Ogletree.

Honorary pallbearers will be the G.W. Long School peewee football team, players.

Left to cherish his memory, loving wife of 48 years, Roselyn Hovey; daughter, Jennifer Hovey (Jodie Knight) of Louisville; grandchildren, Dylan Myers (Hannah) of; Dakota Knight and Tucker Knight of Louisville, and a granddaughter "on the way" soon, Paisley Rayne Myers; sisters, Barbara Houston (Leon) of Millbrook, AL; Connie Bledsole (Billy Ray) of Clayton; Brenda Corbett (Burtrum "Burt") of Crawford, AL; and the significant other of his brother (Ronnie) William Kenneth Campbell of Louisville; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hovey retired from American Buildings in Eufaula as a quality control supervisor and a welding inspector certified with the State of Alabama; he also farmed most of his life. His passion was coaching; in 1992 he coached the Ozark City League girls' softball team and they went to state championship games for the first time; the Ozark team finished 3rd in the state competing against 118 teams; through the years he has coached for G.W. Long School and a Dixie Academy for the football and softball teams. He told the parents, "when the kids step on the field, they are my kids!" and the spirit reciprocated, he was greatly loved by all his players. Coach Hovey will be greatly missed.
