Obituary: Mr. Larry Davis Kent
Larry Davis Kent of Malvern passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021 at his home. He was 73.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Malvern Baptist Church with Brother Hosea Parker and Brother Tim Faulk officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Carroll, Chris Carroll, Nathan Peterman, Adam Traylor, Chris Giersberg, and Shane Lee.
The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing until service time. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society. The family requests for all who attend to please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Larry was born December 5, 1947 to the late William Theadore “Theo” and Robbie Davis Kent at the Moody Hospital in Dothan. In 1968 & 1969 he served his country in Vietnam as a PFC 1st Class where he was exposed to agent orange and he subsequently fought several bouts with cancer. In 1990 he became the founder of Taylor Grocery to which he owned until 2013. Mr. Kent enjoyed working in his yard and flowerbeds, which you knew by his perfectly manicured lawn. Larry also loved his Dr Pepper’s and the grandkids always knew there would be ice cream in his freezer. Larry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, his brothers, Harold “Gene” and Robert “Gerald” Kent also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Merlene Norton Kent; sons, Jeff Walker (Susan) and Thomas Porterfield; granddaughters, Brittney Adams (Anthony) and Jessica Kendall; great grandchildren, Emily, Ryland, Aiden, Maddox, and Mila; and sisters-in-law, Gayle and Brenda Kent.
