HEADLAND. . .Larry Hugh Childres, a resident of Headland, died Tuesday morning, May 26, 2015, in a Dothan hospital. He was 72.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 29, 2015, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinckard Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Headland “Bridge To Tomorrow” Building Fund, 301 East Church Street, Headland, AL 36345.
Mr. Childres was a native of Atlanta, Georgia and was reared in Griffin, Georgia. He lived in Pinckard thirty-three years before moving to Headland in 1997. Mr. Childres was a member of the First Baptist Church of Headland. He was also a member of the Brown’s Crossroads Masonic Lodge No. 529 and a 32nd Degree Mason. Mr. Childres was retired as an Aircraft Inspector at Fort Rucker. He was preceded in death by his father, Milton Hugh Childres, and his mother, Bessie Bedsole Buser.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Barbara Gullage Childres, a daughter, Alisa Childres Lane (Mike), all of Headland; two grandchildren, Jon-Michael Lane and Marcus Lane; a special friend, Larry Gullage and wife, Ginny, Anniston, AL; a first cousin, Billie Ann Sullivan, a sister-in-law, Sue Holland (George), Dothan; two nieces, Jeri Lynn Carothers (Robbins), and Tami Raley (Mark), two nephews, Tim Holland (Amy), and Mike Holland (Tonya).
Serving as active pallbearers will be Donnie Smith, Joel Tucker, Wallace Arnold, Joe Seagers, Wyndle Enfinger, Gary Speigner and Mark Reeves.
