LARRY JOE HARPER
HEADLAND…Larry Joe Harper, a resident of Headland, died late Tuesday night, January 22, 2013, in a Dothan hospital. He was 72.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 26, 2013, in the Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church, County Road 73, near Midland City, with Dr. Jerry M. Dooling and Dr. John P. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church, c/o Geraldine Henderson, 336 County Road 531, Midland City, AL 36350.
Mr. Harper was born and reared in Dothan where he lived most of his lifetime before moving to Headland in 1998. He was a graduate of Dothan High School and attended the University of Alabama and Troy University. While a student at Alabama, he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Mr. Harper retired from Thompson Tractor Company as Facility Manager and as a salesman. In earlier years, he was employed with his father in the operation of Harper Brothers Produce Company. Mr. Harper was an active member of the Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church and was currently serving as Chairman of the Administrative Board. He was an avid Alabama Football fan and enjoyed fishing, camping, and visiting St. George Island. Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his father, Edwin D. Harper, and a sister Patricia Ann Harper.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Virginia Creamer Harper, Headland; two daughters, Cynthia Ann Harrison (Jerry Hester), DeFuniak Springs, FL; and Laura Jo Kinsaul (Rickey), Dothan; his mother, Loraine Brackin Harper, Headland; a sister, Edwina Griffin (Wayne), Peachtree City, GA; two brothers, Tommy Harper (Debby), Waverly, AL; and Craig Harper, Headland; four grandchildren, Emily Knapp (Curtis), Reagan Whitehead, Derek Kinsaul, and Casey Tomberlin; two great-grandchildren, Bryant Tomberlin and Maddox Tomberlin; his mother-in-law, Bonnie Mae Creamer, Dothan; sisters-in-law, Brenda Barron ( Earl), Jolene Caylor (Rob), all of Dothan; Linda Vickers, Vernon, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Rickey Kinsaul, Curtis Knapp, Ed Malone, Jerry Hester, Derek Kinsaul, Ricky Woodham, Don Henderson, and Mike Strickland.
