Obituary: Laura Imogene Guinn
Laura Imogene Guinn, of Enterprise, Alabama was called home by our Lord on May 3, 2023.
She passed peacefully in the comfort of her home with family at the age of 87.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Enterprise with Reverend Ed Brasher officiating. A private family graveside will follow in Meadowlawn cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the service beginning at 9:00 am and continuing until service time.
Imogene was born February 27, 1936, to the late Stacy and Lillian Hayes Matthews. She was the eldest of four sisters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R.C. Guinn; two sisters, Elva Lou Pressler and Rosalie McKinney; and brother-in-law, Roland Hollar.
Imogene dedicated her life to God and her family. As a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Enterprise, she fervently studied the word of God while building relationships with the women of her bible study group. She was a loving mother who advocated for her children and brought them up in the love and admonition of the Lord. She was also a model officer’s wife who supported her husband’s career while building her own in procurement. She enjoyed reading and sharing her love of reading with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening and was an avid Bridge player. After retirement, her and her husband spent their days traveling the world and collecting precious memories and stories. Her life was filled with joy, adventure, and so much love.
She left behind her son, David Guinn (Ronda); daughter, Susan Smith (Ken); a sister, Sylvia Hollar; her grandchildren, Matthew Smith (Jeff), Megan Luke (Darrick), Amber Hyatt, and Thomas Spearman (Amber); as well as, seven great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Southeast Alabama HomeCare, Wiregrass Homecare, and Enhabit for their great care of Imogene and the family during their time of need. They would also like to extend a special thanks to Kristie Watt for her knowledge and support during Imogene’s fight with dementia.
As a sign of gratitude for their prayers and support, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Imogene’s name to Enterprise First Baptist at 302 N Main Street Enterprise, AL 36330.
