Laurel “Laurie” Diane Axtell, a resident of Dothan passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at a local hospital. She was 69.
Funeral services will be on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 11 am in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyle Gatlin officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.
Laurie was born on June 27, 1951 in Dothan and was a 1969 graduate of Dothan High School. After graduation, she attended the University of Alabama where she graduated with a degree in education. Laurie taught at Dothan High School from 1974 until she retired in 2005. She was very family oriented, raising four sons and taking care of her husband. Laurie was a member of the United Methodist Women and Alpha XI Delta Sorority.
Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, J. C. and Augusta Elmore.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Mike Axtell; her sons, Michael (Sarah) Axtell, Branden (Stephanie) Axtell, Philip (Amber) Axtell and Daniel (Regan) Axtell; her grandchildren, Alex Axtell, Sydney Axtell, Emmy Axtell, Anderson Axtell and Tori Curtis; her brother, Jim Elmore; her aunts, Ceretha Kent and JoAnn Walden.
