MIDLAND CITY. . .Lavell Carpenter Carnley, a resident of Midland City, died early Sunday morning, April 23, 2017, in a Dothan hospital. She was 78.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 25, 2017, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Anthony Rosetta officiating. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Ino Baptist Church Cemetery in Coffee County. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Mrs. Carnley was born and reared in Geneva County, near Hacoda, daughter of the late Willie Lee Carpenter and Ophelia Johnson Carpenter. She moved to the Grimes/Midland City area of Dale County in 1963. Mrs. Carnley was an active member of the Grimes United Methodist Church. She was retired from Golden Peanut Company in the Headland office.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, Donald Eugene Carnley; three daughters, Margaret Smith (Acker), Hattiesburg, MS; Wanda Sue Tolar (Ken), Scottsboro, AL; and Kay McKnight (Milton), Newton, AL; six grandchildren, Chad Smith (Sheilah), Bethany White (Drew), Andy Tolar, Alan Tolar, Aaron Tolar, and Kayla Latuso (Ryan); eight great-grandchildren, Christina Smith, Emma Smith, Rhett Smith, Maddie White, Mia White, Marleigh White, Luke Tolar and Angeline Latuso.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be grandsons, and Jeff Barnes and Andy Smith.
