LAVON  HAROLD  WEEKS


 


OZARK. . .Lavon H. Weeks, (Master Sergeant, U. S. Army, Retired), a resident of Ozark, died early Monday morning, May 7, 2012, at his home. He was 81.



            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, in the Southside Baptist Church, Ozark, with Reverend Roger Stone and Reverend Danny Bynum officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens in Ozark. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the sanctuary of the Southside Baptist Church.



            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice, P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, AL. 36302.



            Mr. Weeks was born and reared in Stilson, Georgia, near Savannah, son of the late Cameron Weeks and Wilma Ester Wise Weeks. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1947 and served his country during the Korean War and served four tours of duty in Vietnam. Mr. Weeks retired with the rank of Master Sergeant in 1973 at Fort Rucker. He formerly lived in Level Plains before moving to Ozark in 1974. Mr. Weeks was a member of the Southside Baptist Church and was also a member of the Masonic Order. He formerly owned and operated Ozark Auto Wholesale on Andrews Avenue in Ozark for twenty-five years. Mr. Weeks is preceded in death by two daughters, Vicky Payne and Cindy Hanss.



            Surviving relatives include his wife, Helen Hagler Weeks, Ozark; three daughters, Denise Norris and husband, David, Jack, AL; Janine Castleberry and husband, Steve, Ozark; and Alisa Jackson and husband, Bobby, Dothan; a son, Harry Weeks and wife, Patty, Mira Loma, CA; a sister-in-law, Peggy H. Gunter, Ozark; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a niece and a nephew.



            Serving as active pallbearers will be Bobby Jackson, Cole Maund, Jack Harris, David Norris, Jonathan Exum and Steve Stevens.
