LAWRENCE LAFAYETTE MONEY
HEADLAND . . . Lawrence Lafayette Money, a resident of Headland, died early Tuesday morning, June 19, 2012, in a Dothan hospital. He was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, June 21, 2012 in the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating and a eulogy given by Mr. Joe Watson. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Thursday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church “Challenge To Build”, 2506 State Hwy. 134 East, Headland, AL 36345 or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd Floor, Bethesda, MD 20814.
Mr. Money was born and reared in the Bethlehem Community of Henry County, son of the late Joe William Money and Leezora Parker Money. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. During his military service he received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with one bronze star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, Army of Occupation Ribbon, and two Overseas Service Bars. Mr. Money was retired from Hayes International after twenty-seven years of employment. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. In 2006 Mr. Money was chosen as Father of the Year by the Dothan Eagle. He was preceded in death by two sons, Perry Money and Jeffery Money; two brothers, R.L. Money and Joe H (Pete) Money; a sister, Queen Ammons.
Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-three years, Iris Hamm Money; one daughter, Judy Walding and husband, Kenny, Headland; a sister, Othell M. White, Prattville; a sister-in-law, Joan Hamm Money, Headland; three grandchildren, Amanda Banner and husband, Dan; Dr. Jeff Walding and wife, Dr. Anna Walding; Keisha Brazell and husband Landon; four great-grandchildren, Brayden, Rylan, and Roman Banner and River Walding; several cousins including Melba McQuain, Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Richard Money, Steve Money, Shane Money, Johnny White, Curry Parker, Terry Ammons, and Tony Ammons.
