A celebration of his life will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Father Jim Dane officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10-11 am.

Lawrence Thomas Wright, a resident of Donalsonville, GA passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at a Dothan hospital. He was 80 years old.


A celebration of his life will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Father Jim Dane officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10-11 am.


Larry was born on March 5, 1942 in Detroit and was raised in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He graduated from Southside High School before joining the US Army. He served one tour in Vietnam as a Combat Infantryman and a second tour as a Helicopter Pilot. Larry proudly served his country for 21 years prior to his retirement in 1989. He flew EMS in Kalamazoo, Michigan before moving back to Dothan in 1991. Larry was employed as a civilian flight instructor at Ft. Rucker for a while, then he worked with the United States Postal Service in Enterprise for eight years before fully retiring. He loved to travel in the motor home across the United States, together he and Alice would just take off with no time or schedule, and spending time at the lake and skiing with his family. In his younger days, he enjoyed drag racing. Larry was a Mason, a member of the VFW, a member of the Catholic Faith, and the American Legion.


Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Laverne Hanley.


Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Alice Hill Wright; his son, Lee Wright; his daughter, Cristie Wright and LTC. US Army, Michael, RET Hughes; his two grandchildren, Alexis Hughes and Sheyenne Wright (Tristan) Smith; his great-granddaughter, Lillee Kate Smith; his sisters, Barbara Wright (Joseph) Caruso and Deborah Hanley (Dane) Tubergen; his brother-in-law, Michael Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
