Lee Miles Brennan, age 69, of Dothan, Alabama passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 30th, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones.
A celebration of life will be held at First United Methodist Church in Dothan on Friday, September 16th, 2022 at 3:30pm. Prior to the service, the family will be receiving friends in the First United Methodist Fellowship Hall at 2pm. Immediately following the service, a reception for friends and family will be held at the Dothan Country Club.
Lee was born on September 16th, 1952 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama. He was the son of the late James Hugh Brennan, Jr. and Martha Miles Brennan. Lee and his family were longtime residents of Dothan but spent most of their free weekends in Panama City Beach. During his childhood, the family lived on South Roberta Street, so the Dothan Country Club became his personal playground, after hours campsite, and a place to continue the family tradition of a love for golf. Lee was a natural athlete, who effortlessly excelled in any sport he played: golf, racquetball, basketball, football, baseball, and beyond.
After graduating from Dothan High School in 1970, Lee left to attend Auburn University and joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He arrived in Auburn in a muscle car named “The Judge”, which was quickly replaced by a VW Bus that took his college friends on “Magical Mystery Tours” (headlights optional). He graduated from Auburn with the gift of enduring friendships and a lifelong obsession with Auburn football.
After brief stints in Chicago and Atlanta, Lee returned to Dothan in 1977 to help grow his family business, Southeastern Oil Company. After becoming President & CEO, his ingenuity and innovative approach expanded the business into a multifaceted, thriving success.
Lee’s loved ones will remember him as an upbeat, warmhearted, and adventurous person. He was quick-witted and lived to lovingly tease those closest to him. Lee was happiest when he was on his boat in the Gulf, ideally with a fish on the line and friends on the deck. He was an eager naturalist who loved to travel as much as possible. His passport was stamped from countries across the Americas, Europe, and countless islands with saltwater worth exploring.
He is survived by his adoring daughters, Courtney Clayton Brennan (David Walker) of Seagrove, FL., Chloe Miles Brennan (Nick Hromadka) of Inlet Beach, FL., his devoted life partner, Julie T. George of Dothan, AL., four grandchildren: Alice Powell, Goldie Hromadka, Miles Walker and Viola Hromadka; his sister Patricia Brennan Haslam (Jim) of Canton, GA., his brother James Hugh Brennan III of Chattanooga, TN., his nephew and nieces, and the mother of his children, Debbie Clayton Brennan of Santa Rosa Beach, FL.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Bryant, Sam Vann, Davis Chapman, Fred Harris, Earl Cambron, Billy Boyd, John Harper, Andy Armstrong, William Newton, Charles Waid, Lee Van Carroll, and Malone Garrett.
A special thanks to Starr Cleveland and the rest of the New Season Care Team for taking such beautiful care of Lee during his most challenging days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association or In Christ’s Name ministries at First United Methodist Church of Dothan.
